TrickYoga is a companion art to JointYoga™

TrickYoga is a fun method of trick training to achieve beneficial stretching and strengthening. While regular exercise routines become exactly that, routine, TrickYoga engages your animal's mind and body as well as facilitates bonding with you.

Each trick is designed with the goal of improving health, flexibility and balance. The tricks are taught in small steps, using carefully timed positive reinforcement techniques. Also called "Clicker Training" this method utilizes a distinct sound cue made by a clicker along with a praise word to mark the exact behavior you are training for followed by a reward.

It's best to practice TrickYoga every day for short periods – just a few minutes. A session that lasts more than 15 minutes is overdoing it. In each session you only teach one element of a more complex trick. The common mistake people make is trying to move along too quickly. In order to avoid burn-out, the rule of thumb is to choose one trick per month and do three repitions per day.

Like JointYoga, practicing TrickYoga on a regular basis will not only improve your animal physically, it will also strengthen your bond and make him a brighter, more enthusiastic participant in all sorts of activities. Your animal, just like you, enjoys tackling new challenges!


  1. Go slowly, time your reward and couple it with a distinct sound (clicker/frog) and a praise word.
  2. Build strong basics to create a solid foundation. Continue to reward desired behaviors and review previous training frequently.
  3. Take the time to do it right.
  4. Use patience and humor instead of coercion or anger.
  5. Set your animal up for success.
  6. End your session on a good note.
